Music

I like music. I’m not sure what kind of music I’d consider my favourite but I like a lot of different music. Some music has a very powerful effect on me that I can’t explain.

Take for example music from movie trailers. Stuff like Christopher Nolan’s movies does this a lot. Uplifting “epic” music that rises and has those like impactful moments. This kind of stuff would bring a tear to my eye involuntarily while in the movie theathre which as a younger person was very embarrassing and I’d try to hide it.

Now on the yootoobs I’ve found these videos where someone edits together a bunch of scenes from a movie or tv series and puts music over it. It features the same kind of music, orchestral, instrumental music specifically designed to evoke emotions.. probably. I don’t know, maybe they think it sounds nice. But evoke emotions it does, in me anyway. I can watch these without having watched the media they’re based of and completely live in the story told by the edit. I’ve found myself sobbing over some. A grown ass man, sobbing uncontrollably over a video.

I think violin and piano are what I’m most vulnerable to. I watched a vtuber - the hilarious and fantastically talented Cecilia Immergreen - do a violin ‘karaoke’ stream and a pianoa ’learning’ stream, and had tears streaming down my face during both of them. I don’t know if this is normal, if it’s some sign of mental or emotional instability (haha me? no way).

As for actual music.. I never developed a ’taste’ of my own until highschool, when I was introduced to metal, and the plethora of sub-genres. I don’t know whether this was truly my own tastes or if it was simply what my friends were into and got me into. After that I eventually moved to more “techno” focused music.. trance, house, chillstep, dubstep, EDM, drum and bass, etc. From there I kinda.. didn’t really listen to any new music much, and even now I don’t consume much new music. Most of what I listen to now is old music, whatever youtube recommends takes me to from AMVs, and mostly vtuber originals / covers, specifically Hololive.

So yeah.. maybe if this was myspace and 2008? 2010? whenever it was at its peak I could put some loud and obnoxious .wav file deafening anybody who clicks on this page. Not that I think anybody would see this page ever, considering.
